Wheat Festival Slated for July 9th-13th

What does the Wheat Festival mean to you? Does it include tradition, family, fun, opportunity, laughter, or hometown pride?   If you’re like many, it means all of those things and that’s what this year’s Wheat Festival is all about – Community Pride, tradition and quality of life.
Some of you may know how it all started but for those who enjoy a little history lesson, here you go.  The Wheat Festival     began in 1900 as the Sumner County Jubilee and Wheat Carnival to celebrate a record breaking wheat crop that year.  It has         continued to be a tradition in Wellington in one form or another ever since.  The Wheat Festival is the highlight of Wellington’s summer activities.  Festivities kick off on Wednesday July 9th   and run through Sunday, July 13th.
We are hopeful that this year’s wheat harvest will be as    record breaking as it was in 1900 because we are certain Wheat   Festival 2008 will be bigger and better than ever.  As tradition  has it, there will be five days of fun including everything from the   Picnic in the Park and Battle of the Bands to the Parade and Street Dance.
The Wheat Festival is the Chamber’s premier fundraising event bringing in much-needed dollars to continue our mission: To help our members and the surrounding Wellington area grow and prosper through a working partnership of volunteers.
We very much appreciate all that you, our members, do to help make the Wheat Festival happen every year.  We couldn’t do  it without your generous donations of time, sponsorships and     button drawing prizes.
